The "gut microbiome" consists of billions of bacteria that live in your intestines (gut). For the most part, these bacteria live peacefully inside you and are a natural and healthy part of digestion. When the bacteria in the gut microbiome digest the food you eat, they do it by a process called fermentation.
Fermentation is not necessarily bad, but sometimes too much fermentation can cause symptoms such as pain, bloating or even diarrhoea and constipation.
